Wild Things produce 16 hits in rout of Lake Erie

The Washington Wild Things climbed above the .500 mark with a 16-hit attack that produced a 12-3 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers in a Frontier League baseball game at Sprenger Stadium Wednesday.

Every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit for the Wild Things (3-2) and Trevor Foss pitched six strong innings to move his record to 2-0.

Washington trailed early, 2-0 in the first inning, then erupted for 12 runs over the final eight innings.

Leadoff hitter Rashad Brown hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the seventh inning that gave the Wild Things a 9-2 lead.

Washington cracked nine doubles, with Mike Hill hitting three and Jace Conrad and Hector Roa two apiece. Hill went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Conrad went 2-for-5, scored twice and drove in a run. Roa finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kane Sweeny went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, helping the bottom five batters in the lineup going 9-for-23 with six RBI and five runs scored.

Foss struck out seven batters, and didn’t allow a walk over his six innings. His ERA moved to 1.38. Vince Apicella and Aaron Burns cleaned up the final three innings, alowing a run and three hits.

Losing pitcher Josh Heddiger was shelled for eight runs, seven earned, and 11 hits over six innings.

Sean Hurley paced the Lake Erie offense by hitting his third home of the season and driving in two runs.
