High expectation

GENEVA, Ohio – Westminster College senior Marissa Kalsey, a Waynesburg High School graduate, made history at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday by winning the pole vault with a school- and NCAA Championship-record of 13-10 (4.22 meters) and becoming the first national champion in school history.
Kalsey’s winning jump came after clearing 13 feet, 7.25 inches (4.15m). She also becomes the second Division III pole vaulter – male or female – to be a four-time All-American in the Indoor and Outdoor Nationals.
Kalsey’s mark Thursday also ties the fourth-best jump in Division III history. She also is the first NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field champion from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference since Thiel’s Alex Eaton in 2010 and second female and fifth total in conference history. Kalsey placed second at Outdoor Nationals in 2015 (13-3 1/2), third in 2014 (12-7 1/2), and fifth in 2013 (12-3 1/2). Kalsey had a year of eligibility left after receiving a medical hardship following an injury in 2016.
