Football playoffs capsule: Carmichaels vs. Clairton
Carmichaels vs. Clairton
Records: Carmichaels is 8-2, Clairton is 8-2.
Class A
Winner plays: Either third-seeded Jeannette or eighth-seeded Rochester.
What to watch: This game suddenly got more compelling this week with the suspension of several Clairton players as a result of a fight during its first-round game against Summit Academy. It’s not known what Bears were suspended. Clairton won its last three regular-season games by a combined score of 136-13, including a 40-6 rout over Jeannette. Carmichaels will have to stop the two-pronged attack in the backfield of Tre’Sean Howard and Aaron Thompson, who have combined for more than 1,000 yards this season. Carmichaels’ has one of the top running backs in Class A with Nick Mundell. He has 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Quarterback Kevin Kelly has played mistake-free football as Carmichaels snapped its 12-game playoff losing streak last week with a 28-8 victory over Western Beaver. The streak dated back to 2002.
