Cheyenne Trest could not have scripted a better start to her college basketball season.

A freshman guard at Seton Hill and a Canon-McMillan graduate, Trest has been named the PSAC West Division Freshman of the Week each of the first two weeks of the season. She became the first Griffins women’s basketball player to ever win back-to-back weekly awards from the PSAC.

Trest had her fourth double-figure scoring effort when she scored 14 points in each of the PSAC crossover matchups last weekend. In an 89-51 win over Lock Haven, Trest just missed a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine assists. She also had six rebounds and four steals in the win.

In a 77-73 loss to Mansfield, Trest scored 14 points and made eight of 10 free throws.

Seton Hill played an exhibition game Tuesday against Division I St. Francis (Pa.) and Trest scored eight points, making three of six shots, and had four assists.

Trest is averaging 13 points per game and is Seton Hill’s second-leading scorer. She is tied for 7th in the PSAC in total assists with 17.

Seton Hall freshman Mia Kness of Venetia was named the Big East Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week after winning the Brown Bear Fall Invitational, held Oct. 15-16, in Seekonk, Mass. Kness, a Peters Township graduate, won on the fourth playoff hole over teammate Maddie Sager for her first tournament championship in only five collegiate tournaments. Among all Seton Hall golfers who had won a tournament, Kness played the second-fewest events before her initial victory.

Kness had three birdies in route to an even-par 71 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 1-under 141 (71-71). Kness and Sager set the Seton Hall record for lowest par-71 two-round score.

Jake Sollon, a sophomore at Rider and a Venetia native, placed 11th in a field of 150 golfers at the Lehigh Invitational held at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem.

Sollon, a Peters Township graduate, had a two-day total of 150 after shooting an opening-round 1-over 73 that had him tied for second place. He had 15 pars, which led all golfers, during the first round.

Sollon had a team-best 76.44 scoring average during his freshman season.
