Davis points way as Vulcans shoot down Salem

CALIFORNIA — Terry Davis led five California players in double figures with a game-high 25 points and the Vulcans held off Salem 97-88 in a nonconference game Monday night at the Convocation Center.

The game featured some terrific long-range shooting as the teams combined to make 31 three-point field goals, including 16 by Salem (2-3).

California (4-2) used a 7-0 run late in the first half to take a 34-28 lead and never trailed by more than two points the rest of the way. The Vulcans went on a 20-4 run in the second half to forge an 80-64 lead, though Salem closed to within 89-86 with 1:23 remaining after a three-pointer by Jordan Robinson.

Cal made six free throws in the final 65 seconds to secure the win.

In addition to his 25 points, Davis led Cal with nine assists and 10 rebounds, narrowly missing a triple-double. Cordell Smith scored 22 points for California and made seven three-pointers. Isaiah Lewis finished with 19 points and eight assists. Jahmere Howze scored 14 and Robel Teckle had 10.

Cal shot 51 percent and made 15 of 31 three-pointers.

Ignacio Rodriguez led five Salem players in double figures with 23 points. He was 7 of 14 from three-point range. Reggie Oliver followed with 22 points.
