WAYNESBURG – Nearly two years after its last win, Waynesburg defeated visiting Southmoreland 36-14 in a Class AAA Interstate Conference game Friday night, ending the Raiders’ 17-game losing streak.

Waynesburg came out firing, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter.

Dylan Scritchfield, who ran for 34 yards and passed for 93 yards, rushed for an 8-yard score before Southmoreland’s Ronnie Robinson tied it at 7-7 with a 12-yard run.

Caleb Shriver then ran for two touchdowns in a 90-second span for Waynesburg (1-4, 1-4). The first was a 61-yard score, and the second was from one yard. The sophomore ran for 157 yards on 17 carries.

Neither team scored in the second or third quarters. A 10-yard TD run from Nick Higginbotham in the fourth quarter clinched the win for Waynesburg. It was the Raiders’ first victory since thumping Charleroi 47-0 Oct. 2, 2015.

The Raiders scored again late in the game on Wyatt Henson’s 37-yard run.

Southmoreland (0-3, 0-5) scored with about a minute left on a Chad Miller 55-yard run.
