Wide receiver Bryant denies requesting trade
PITTSBURGH – Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant Monday laughed off any thought he asked to be traded, despite NFL Network reports to the contrary that surfaced Sunday night after Pittsburgh defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-13, at Arrowhead Stadium.
Bryant was on the field for a season-low 33 plays, catching just two passes for 27 yards on three targets.
Bryant went to the coaching staff recently to talk about his role with the team but said he is happy to be with the Steelers.
“No, I’m good,” Bryant said. “Good to go, play ball, play this year out strong, finish strong and move forward.”
Bryant has 17 receptions for 231 yards and one touchdown in six games after sitting out the 2016 season while suspended for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
He and quarterback Ben Roethlisber haven’t hooked up on many of the deep passes. Bryant caught 14 touchdown passes in his first 21 games, but he is continuing to work to get back to his previous level.
“I know what I can do,” he said. “The little bit I get, I have to make the best of it. Everything else is out of my control.”
