Girls soccer roundup: Mars deals Canon-McMillan rare loss
Mars scored in each half to take a 2-0 win from Canon-McMillan in a nonsection match Saturday night. It was C-M’s first loss since last year’s WPIAL final against Norwin.
Taylor Hamlett scored with 16 minutes remaining in the first half. Maggie Williams scored with 8 minutes to play for Mars (7-0). Claire Valentine made 10 stops for the shutout.
Ashley Barzd made nine saves for C-M (5-1-1).
• Madison Musser snapped a scoreless tie at the four-minute mark of the first overtime to give Charleroi a 1-0 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a nonsection match.
Kayla Watkins recorded the shutout for the Cougars. Kasey Scears made 7 saves for C-H (2-7-1).
• Brenna McGuire’s goal at 35:43 of the second half gave South Fayette a 1-1 tie with host Mt. Lebanon in a nonsection match.
After a scoreless first half, Mt. Lebanon took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Julia LaLama 25:54 into the second half. Ten minutes later, McGuire scored the equalizer for South Fayette (6-1-3).
