Softball roundup: Parshall strikes out 23 in win

Bailey Parshall struck out 23 of her 27 outs in a nine-inning, 6-2, victory over host Waynesburg.

Parshall allowed two runs (zero earned) and two hits while walking only one. Her 23 punchouts is a school record.

The senior also homered for BV (3-1), as the Leopards smacked four home runs. Natalie French, McKenzie Sokol and Alex Sokol all homered as well.

The Leps hit three home runs in the team’s four-run ninth inning.

Selena Phillips led the Waynesburg (4-2) offense with a triple. Jordan Sibert struck out three and allowed 13 hits in her nine innings pitched.

Monessen 7, Carmichaels 2: Dana Vatakis recorded 13-strikeout, complete-game Section 2-A victory as Monessen defeated host Carmichaels 7-2.

Vatakis walked two and allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in her seven innings.

Mattie Telegraphis and Cara Wheeler led the Monessen (1-1, 2-1) offense with one double apiece.

Kylie Sinn punched out eight batters, allowing seven hits and one walk, in her complete-game loss. Only one of the southpaw’s seven runs allowed were earned.

Emma Holaren tripled for Carmichaels’ (2-1, 3-2) only extra-base hit.

Mapletown 18, Jefferson-Morgan 11: Despite committing eight errors, Mapletown defeated host Jefferson-Morgan in an 18-11 Section 2-A slugfest.

Macee Chesney roped three doubles to lead the Mapletown (1-0, 2-0) offense, while Elisa Clerk hit a double and a three-run homer.

Mapletown’s Madi Blaker threw all seven innings, allowing 11 runs (five earned). The freshman struck out 10 and walked five.

Caitlyn Dugan struck out two and walked four in seven innings for J-M (0-1, 1-1). Dugan also hit a double and a grand slam. Autumn Gustovich smacked three hits, including a solo homer, for the Rockets.

McGuffey 6, Charleroi 0: Shelby Dobrynski struck out five in a complete-game shutout to lead McGuffey to a 6-0 Section 3-AAA win over Charleroi.

McGuffey’s (2-1, 2-1) offense was led by Emily Irey, Brin Hunter and Dobrynski, all of whom doubled. Dorbynski led the Highlanders (2-1, 2-1) with two RBI. Ellie Serna also tripled for McGuffey.

Charleroi (0-3, 0-4) starter Ashley Smith struck out four and walked none in the loss.

Chartiers-Houston 17, Beth-Center 0: Chartiers-Houston exploded for 11 runs in the second inning to defeat Section 3-AA foe Beth-Center 17-0 in a three-inning, mercy-rule win.

Kaci Alderson led the Bucs with two doubles, while Lauren Lober tripled for C-H (2-0, 4-0). Karlyn Bayer and Jaylese Lombardi both doubled for the Bucs as well.

Kaitlyn Dittrich earned the win, tossing two innings and striking out two batters. Karlyn Bayer threw the last inning for the Bucs.

Beth-Center falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in section.

Albert Gallatin 17, Trinity 1: Albert Gallatin exploded for 16 hits and 17 runs to mercy rule Trinity.

The Colonials (2-0, 3-0)scored seven runs in the third inning and eight in the fourth to defeat the visiting Hillers (2-1, 4-3) 17-1.

Ally Bezjak tallied five RBI in the Section 2-5A win, while Maddie Flowers smacked three hits for four RBI and Lindsey Robinson knocked in three runs with her three hits.

Madison Hershberger earned the win for AG, tossing four innings of three-hit ball with five strikeouts.

Bentworth 11, Burgettstown 5: Bentworth’s offense put up crooked numbers in four different innings to defeat Section 3-AA foe Burgettstown 11-5.

The Bearcats (1-1, 4-2) scored two runs in the first and three runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Bentworth’s Jessica Rothka hit the game’s only home run, while Grace Shoeldel and Emilie Snyder both doubled.

Kaylie Anderson struck out three batters and walked four in her 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Tori Carnes, the losing pitcher, walked five and punched out six for Burgettstown (1-1, 1-4). Lexie Stratus and Brooke Zeblwin both doubled to lead the Blue Devils’ offense.
