High school baseball: Angotti leads Ringgold to win over South Park
Chase Angotti only allowed two hits and a pair of earned runs over 6 ? innings as Ringgold defeated South Park, 6-4, in a Class 4A Section 3 game.
Angotti struck out six and had help when the Rams scored four runs in the second inning to give them a lead they wouldn’t surrender.
Koby Bubash had a two-run double and Jake Rongaus went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs for Ringgold (4-1, 5-1).
South Park is 1-2 in section and 6-3 overall.
Canon-McMillan 7, Allderdice 5: Cam Weston hit a three-run home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning to spark a Canon-McMillan comeback victory over Class 6A Section 3 opponent Allderdice, 7-5.
The Big Macs trailed 5-2 entering the final inning when Allderdice was forced to start the frame without starting pitcher Tanner Jacobson (pitch count), who limited C-M to only two hits with 10 strikeouts in 5 ? innings.
Greydon Piechnick hit a two-run double to give C-M (3-1, 6-2) the lead with two outs in the seventh.
Jacobson also had a double for Allderdice (0-5, 0-5).
West Mifflin 3, Belle Vernon 2: Dylan Cannon hit a walk-off single to score Nick Ackerman as West Mifflin defeated Class 4A Section 3 opponent Belle Vernon, 3-2, in nine innings.
The Titans tied the game at 3-3 and extended it into extra innings with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Trey Manspeaker and Ryan Ruffling each had two hits for West Mifflin (3-1, 6-2).
Jake Rathway led the offensive effort for Belle Vernon (3-0, 3-0) by going 3-for-4.
California 8, Beth-Center 4: The Calfornia lineup provided cushion for starting pitcher Jacob Swartz with six runs in the first two innings as the Trojans defeated Beth-Center, 8-4, in a Class 2A Section 1 contest.
Brendan Sheehan and Brody Conner each had a double for California (3-2, 3-3).
Bailey Lincoski hit a double for Beth-Center (1-2, 2-3).
Carmichaels 7, Frazier 4: Dylan Wilson went 3-for-4 to lead Carmichaels past Class 2A Section 1 opponent Frazier, 7-4.
Tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mikes recaptured the lead on a Wilson double. They then added a pair of runs on a Nathan Broadwater single.
Nick Mundell also had a hit and scored three runs for Carmichaels (3-1, 4-2).
Mason Kelly went 3-for-5 for Frazier (2-1, 2-3).
Chartiers-Houston 8, Bentworth 3: Destin Weiser and Roman Lombardi combined for seven strong innings on the mound to lead Chartiers-Houston pasts Bentworth, 8-3, in a Class 2A Section 1 contest.
The two pitchers for the Bucs only surrendered three hits and one earned run while combining to strike out eight.
Noah Minney had a pair of doubles for Chartiers-Houston (3-1, 4-2).
Bentworth falls to 0-4 in section and 1-5 overall.
South Fayette 9, Beaver 4: Four players had a multi-hit game for South Fayette as the Lions cruised to a 9-4 victory over Beaver in a Class 4A Section 2 game.
Joey Alcorn, Eli Snider, Nolan Lutz and Tyler Bedillion led the way offensively for South Fayette, which improves to 4-1 in section and 6-3 overall.
Alcorn and Bedillion each had a triple.
Beaver (2-3, 3-3) was paced by Zach Hansen, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jeannette 7, Jefferson-Morgan 0: Tre Cunningham threw a complete-game shutout to lead Jeannette to a 7-0 Section 2-A win over visiting Jefferson-Morgan.
Cunningham, who is also a football and basketball star at Jeannette (3-1, 4-1), struck out nine and walked none, allowing only three hits.
Drake Petrillo led the Jayhawks offense with a double for the team’s only extra-base hit. The Jayhawks smacked 10 hits to J-M’s three.
Bryce Bedilion threw 5 2/3 innings for the Rockets (2-2, 3-2), walking two and striking out one.
West Greene 15, Geibel 0: Chase Blake drove in two runs to help West Greene beat Geibel 15-0 in a five-inning game in Section 2-A.
Zach Pettit allowed three hits and struck out four for the Pioneers (2-2, 3-3). Geibel fell to 0-4, 0-2 in the section.
Fort Cherry 9, Burgettstown 5: Hunter Terpack doubled and knocked in three runs to lead Fort Cherry to a 9-5 victory over Burgettstown in Section 1-AA.
Shane Smith had a double and 2 RBI and Mark Permigiani added a double for the Rangers (4-1,, 4-1).
Ryan Lounder, Danta Gianfrancisco and Hunter Ayers each had a double for the Blue Devils (1-3, 2-3).
Chartiers Valley 15, Trinity 8: Chartiers Valley pounded out 17 hits in a 15-8 victory over Trinity in Section 2 of Class 5A.
Jake Lindow homered and Steve Alauzon tripled for the Colts (3-1, 3-2). Hunter Gordon, Reed Buggeman, Cayson O’Keefe and Zack Pilossoph each hit a double. Tanner Hudak doubled for Trinity (1-4, 1-5).
Monessen 16, Mapletown 0: Nick Baker smacked two doubles and drove in three runs as Monessen defeated Mapletown 16-0 in five innings of a Section 1-A game.
Monessen (2-1, 3-1), which led 13-0 after two innings, got triples from Darius Stevenson and Cory Fleming and another double from Antonio Rhome. Three pitchers held Mapletown (0-3, 0-5) without a hit.
Avonworth 20, Washington 7: Washington saw a one-run lead evaporate in the sixth inning, when Avonworth scored 14 runs to win 20-7 in a non-section game.
Jack Miller drove in 4 runs and Patrick Gannon 3 for the Antelopes (4-0, 6-0).
Alex Crawford doubled and John Griffin doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Prexies (0-3, 0-6).
Upper St. Clair 7, Peters Township 1: Herb Gordon went 4-for-5 with a home run as Upper St. Clair defeated Peters Township, 7-1, in a Class 6A Section 3 game.
Tied at 1-1 entering the fifth inning, the Panthers scored four runs to pull away from PT.
Jonah Auslander also had three hits for USC (3-2, 8-2).
Colin Caven and Dax Ploskina went 2-for-3 for the Indians, who fell to 1-2 in section play and 4-5 overall.
