Football coaching finalists passed the tests
It was another successful fall for three football coaches, who took their teams to the postseason.
The ride was not always smooth but relying on skill and determination brought some satisfying results and admirable accomplishments.
Mike Bosnic of Washington, Darrin Dillow of California and Rod Huffman of West Greene are finalists at the Tri-County Athletic Directors Coach of the Year Banquet, which will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Meadow Lands.
Tickets for the banquet are $35 each and are on sale at Washington Highw School, 201 Allison Avenue, Washington, Pa., 15301. Reservations can be made by calling Washington athletic director Mike Bosnic at 724-223-5085, ext. 2091.
All proceeds from the banquet benefit Special Olympics.
Winners will be revealed at the banquet.
It was another outstanding season for the Prexies, who won the WPIAL Class AA title with a 37-10 win over Steel Valley. Bosnic also chalked up another Century Conference title as the Prexies went undefeated in seven games. Wash High disposed of Freedom, East Allegheny and North Catholic to reach the WPIAL finals. Wilmington stopped Wash High (13-1) in the state semifinals in a wild 49-42 loss.
With a high-powered running game sparked by the lineman-sized running back Jelani Stafford, Dillow guided the Trojans to a Tri-County South Conference title with a 7-0 record. California defeated Bishop Canevin and Union to advance to the WPIAL Class A semifinals, where Imani Christian stopped the Trojans. California, which defeated Imani Christian during the regular season. finished with a 12-1 record.
Huffman led West Greene to its first WPIAL playoff appearance since 1993. The Pioneers finished fourth in the Tri-County South Conference and had a 7-4 record. Injuries plagued the Pioneers at season’s end. Rochester ended the Pioneers season in the first round.
