Two local high school girls basketball players were named first-team all-state selections.

Chartiers-Houston senior forward Alexa Williamson and Peters Township junior guard Makenna Marisa were selected to the first team of their respective classes when the 2017-18 Sports Writers Pennsylvania All-State Girls Teams were released Tuesday afternoon.

Williamson, a Temple recruit, scored a WPIAL-leading 30.7 points, grabbed 14 rebounds per game in her final year for the Bucs and was named the Observer-Reporter Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

In the three state playoff games Chartiers-Houston played this season – the Bucs reached the PIAA quarterfinals before falling to eventual Class AA state champion Bellwood-Antis – she scored 104 points. In her eight career games in the PIAA tournament, Williamson averaged 27.1 points.

Marisa, who recently received an offer from Penn State that added to a list that includes Pitt, Duquesne, Ball State, Villanova, St. Joseph’s and Cincinnati, scored 23 points and collected nine rebounds per game this season in Class 6A. She was named to the first team on the Observer-Reporter All-District Team.

Using a unique blend of her 5-11 frame and speed from the guard position, Marisa outmatched every opponent the Indians faced.

She also averaged three assists and three steals per game.

Williamson and Marisa joined 24 other players from the WPIAL – 11 who received first-team honors – in the six classifications.

The boys all-state teams will be released Monday.
