High school softball roundup: Poland’s HR lifts Trinity over South Fayette

Kylie Poland hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning that was enough to lift Trinity to a 2-1 victory over South Fayette in a non-section game Thursday afternoon.

Trinity pitcher Reagan Perry settled down in the circle after giving up a run in the first inning. She allowed six hits and earned the win.

Bailey Bell hit a double for Trinity (10-5).

South Fayette falls to 3-8 overall.

• Kourtney Gavatorta and Mekenzie Sokol each had a pair of hits, Bailey Parshall turned in another dominating performance in the circle and Belle Vernon handed Class 4A Section 2 foe Elizabeth Forward its second loss of the season, 3-2, in eight innings.

Elizabeth Forward defeated Belle Vernon, 11-3, in the second game of the doubleheader.

Parshall pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts.

Elizabeth Forward (5-2, 11-2) mounted a comeback in the seventh with a pair of runs to tie the score at 2-2 send the game into extra innings. Cassidy Kern hit a run-scoring double and Bri Sersevic hit an RBI single for the Warriors.

Alex Sokol, Mekenzie Sokol and Parshall each had a double for Belle Vernon (6-2, 9-2).

• Kaitlyn Pavlick had a day to remember for South Park, hitting three home runs and driving in 10 runs to lead the Eagles to a 17-7 victory over Waynesburg in a Class 3A Section 3 game.

Pavlick’s memorable performance was only the beginning of a successful offensive day for the Eagles, who had 20 hits as a team.

Kelli Mesick also hit a two-run homer for South Park (7-0, 7-1).

Sydney Hare hit a three-run home run for Waynesburg (4-3, 6-6) in the sixth inning.

• Leah Lindley had an impressive day in the batter’s box and pitching circle for Bentworth, throwing seven scoreless innings to lead the Bearcats to a 4-0 win over Class 2A Section 3 foe Fort Cherry.

Lindley struck out eight and went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kaylie Anderson had a double and Emma Fadler hit a triple for Bentworth (5-2, 8-3).

Macey Roble suffered the loss for Fort Cherry (1-6, 2-7).

• Emi Curcio hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning as Frazier defeated Chartiers-Houston, 5-4, in a battle of the two top teams in Class 2A Section 3.

The Bucs committed a pair of errors in the final inning to lead to the winning run scoring.

Trailing 4-2 entering what looked to be its final at-bat, Chartiers-Houston (5-2, 9-2) scored a pair of runs on a single from Ella Brookman to send the game to extra innings.

Kasey Scears and Jaylese Lombardi each had two hits for the Bucs.

Logan Hartman led Frazier (7-0, 8-4) with 14 strikeouts in the circle. She also had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.

• Kate Hondru and Anna Chapman combined to pitch five strong innings as Peters Township defeated Brashear, 13-1, in Class 6A Section 1 game.

Anna Zierden had a double for PT (4-3, 6-6).

Brashear is 0-7 in the section and 0-8 overall.

• Jefferson-Morgan needed eight innings to California, 8-4, in a Section 2-A game.

Marlee Renner collected three hits for the Trojans, who fall to 1-7 in the section and 1-8 overall.

Jefferson-Morgan is 2-5 in the section and 3-5 overall.

• Megan Walker went 3-for-5 and drove in 4 runs to pace Carmichaels to a 20-0, five-inning victory over Avella in Section 2-A.

Winning pitcher Kylie Sinn had a three-run home run and drove in 5 runs for the Mikes (5-2, 8-4). Emily Menhart had a double and 3 RBI, Emma Holaren doubled and tripled, Madison Ellsworth doubled and Gina Ranieri had a triple.

Emily Pollock doubled for Avella (0-6, 0-8).

• McKenzie Crile pitched and hit Beth-Center to an 8-4 victory over Burgettstown in Section 3-AA.

Crile struck out 12 and homered for the Bulldogs (2-5, 2-6). Paige Moore tripled.

Tori Carnes struck out 11 but gave up 11 hits for Burgettstown (1-6, 1-9).
