High school softball roundup: Sinn throws no-hitter, homers as Carmichaels wins 5th straight
Sophomore Kylie Sinn fired a no-hitter and belted a three-run homer Friday to lead Carmichaels to a 15-0 five-inning victory over host California in Section 2-A.
Carmichaels (6-2, 9-4) has won five in a row and yielded only one run during the streak. California is 1-8, 1-9.
Sinn struck out six and walked three. Her home run was part of an 18-hit attack for the Mikes. Madi Ewart, Madison Ellsworth and Mia Ranieri each contributed a double.
• Kourtney Gavatora, Jaelynn Clegg and Natalie French each had a run-scoring hit, pitcher Bailey Parshall struck out 13 and Belle Vernon scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to beat host Ligonier Valley 4-1 in a non-section game.
Parshall scattered five hits and issued only one walk. She helped Belle Vernon’s with a double, the lone extra-base hit for the game. The Leopards improved their record to 10-2.
• Bentworth belted 17 hits and rolled over host Brownsville 12-1 in a five-inning non-section game.
Winning pitcher Leah Lindley threw a three-hitter and struck out six. She also hit two doubles and drove in a pair of runs. Emile Snyder had one double and drove in three runs ands Katie Babirad contributred a double as the Bearcats improved to 9-3. They have won five in a row.
• Erica Haught, Elika Mowery and MaKenzi Hollie each had three RBI as Canon-McMillan collected 14 hits to defeat Mt. Lebanon, 12-3, in a Class 6A Section 1 game.
The powerful lineup of the Big Macs generated eight extra-base hits, including five home runs. Haught led the way with two home runs. Katelyn Greaves, Mowery and Hollie each hit a homer. Lindsay Schmidt was 3-for-4 and scored three runs for C-M (7-2, 8-2).
Cate Rogan went 2-for-4 for Mt. Lebanon (5-4, 5-4) but suffered the loss in the circle.
It’s the Big Macs four straight victory.
• Kaylee Ludwick hit a two-run single to spark a four-run fourth inning as Elizabeth Forward defeated South Fayette, 8-3, in Section 2-AAAA.
Ludwick was one of four players with a pair of hits for Elizabeth Forward (6-2, 11-2). Bri Sersevic, Cassidy Kern and Taylor Ludwick also had two hits. Jordan Pinneri led EF by going 3-for-4 with three runs.
Four of the Lions’ five hits were from Madison Potteiger and Ashley Micholas.
• Sisters McKenna and Madison Lampe combined for six hits to lead West Greene past Mapletown, 17-1, in a Section 2-A game.
Madison Lampe had two RBI as the Pioneers scored 13 runs in the second inning. Jade Renner had a single and a double, Kaitlyn Rizor hit three singles and Linzee Stover and Mackenzie Carpenter each had a pair of singles for West Greene (7-1, 10-3).
The lone hit from Mapletown was a double from Madolleen Grim. The Maples are 3-4 in the section and 5-4 overall.
