Rascals rout Wild Things
Josh Kimborowicz, pitching on only three days of rest, threw 7 1/3 strong innings, Mike Jurgella and Trevor Achenbach each drove in four runs and the River City Rascals routed the Wild Things 14-3 Saturday night.
River City, which began the night .001 of a percentage point out of first place in the Frontier League’s West Division, scored two early runs off Washington starter Levi MaVohris (1-1), added another in the fifth and broke the game open by scoring nine runs against the Wild Things’ bullpen. The Rascals had 20 hits.
Kimborowicz (4-4) scattered nine hits but walked only one batter.
Washington scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by James Harris. Reydel Medina hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning. He was the final batter Kimborowicz faced.
Jurgella had a two-run double double in River City’s five-run eighth inning. The Rascals scored in each of the final five innings.
Prior to the game, Washington released relief pitcher Aaron Burns (2-1, 3.48), who was in his second year with the Wild Things. To fill the roster spot, Washington signed pitcher Jacob Belinda, a former pitcher at Lock Haven University and in the Atlanta Braves farm system. He is the nephew of former Pirates pitcher Stan Belinda.
Belinda had a rough debut with Washington as he gave up three hits and two walks in River City’s three-run sixth inning.
