Wild Things crushed by Lake Erie
AVON, Ohio – The playoff-bound Wild Things had their four-game winning streak come to an abrupt end Friday night as the Lake Erie Crushers cruised to an 11-4 victory over Washington.
The loss prevented Washington from clinching the Frontier League’s East Division title. The Wild Things began the night with a two-game lead over second-place Joliet and a magic number of one to clinch. Joliet rolled over Schaumburg 9-1 in a rain-delayed game to close to within one game of Washington with only two remaining. Any washington win over Joliet loss gives the Wild Things the division title.
Lake Erie, which has dominated the season series with Washington, scored four runs in the first inning against Wild Things starter Thomas Dorminy (9-5), who on Thursday was named the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Year. Dorminy lasted only one inning, giving up three hits and hitting a batter.
The Crushers broke open the game by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning.
Lake Erie starter Alex Romero (11-6) ran his consecutive scoreless streak to a league-record 38 before Kyle Pollock’s two-run double in the seventh. Conner Simonetti hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning for Washington.
