Basketball roundup: West Greene rallies from 15 down to win
West Greene rallied from 15 points down to take a 65-59 victory from visiting Beth-Center in a nonsection boys basketball game Wednesday night.
Nate Brudnock sank all six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and finished with a double-double, 25 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Crouse had 18 points and Benjamin Jackson grabbed 10 rebounds.
West Greene (1-2) trailed 33-25 at halftime but outscored B-C, 40-26 in the second half.
Beth-Center was paced by Easton McDaniel’s 16 points. Andrew Bower and Colby Kuhns each scored 13 points.
Westinghouse 66, Monessen 59: Jaymir Jackson and Rodkeem Byrd combined for 46 points as Westinghouse edged Monessen 66-59 in the consoaltion game fo the Mike Rettger Tournament at Franklin Regional.
Jackson and Byrd each scored 23 points for the Bulldogs (1-4).
Monessen (0-3) had three players in double figures led by Devin Whitlock’s 23 points. Marquell Smith and Darnell Howell each scored 10 points.
Whitlock and Byrd were named to the all-tournament team.
Geibel Catholic 79, Bentworth 56: Cole Kendall, Ryan Anderson and Enzo Fetsko combined for 56 points Wednesday night in Geibel Catholic’s 79-56 non-section victory over visiting Bentworth.
Kendall scored a game-high 25 for the Gators (2-1), while Anderson finished with 16 and Fetsko added 15.
Geibel led 27-11, 46-22 and 74-35 at the quarter breaks.
Shawn Dziak led the Bearcats (0-2) with 18 points. Jacob Burke added 16.
Girls results
Washington 68, Monessen 23: Four players scored in double figures to push Washington past Monessen, 68-23 in a non-section game.
Carly Allen led the way with 18 points, Kayla Woods and Torri Finley added 15 points and Randi Thomas chipped in with 12 points for Washington (3-0). Jahlea Oakley had 10 rebounds.
Monessen (0-4) was paced by Qitarah Herdison’s 7 points.
West Greene 63, Carmichaels 21: West Greene wasted no time in taking control against visiting Carmichaels, forging a 28-point first-quarter lead and then cruising to a 63-21 victory in a nonsection game.
Kaitlyn Rizor led 11 West Greene players in the scoring column with a game-high 17 points. Madison Lampe was the only other WG player in double figures with 11 points.
West Greene (2-1) scored all the points it would need during the first quarter, when it led 31-3. The Pioneers were up 44-6 at halftime.
Carmichaels’ record is 0-4.
South Allegheny 43, Charleroi 11: Charleroi never got it offense going in a 43-11 loss at South Allegheny in a nonsection game.
The Cougars (2-2) were held tof our points or fewer in every quarter. South Allegheny (2-1) forged a 17-3 lead int he first quarter and led 31-5 at halftime.
Cindy Kirkwood of South Allegheny was the only player in the game to score in double figures. She had 14 points. Bella Skobel led Charleroi with five points.
