Evans sets
Waynesburg record
A dominant, historic run to the heavyweight title by junior Jake Evans highlighted the day for the Waynesburg University wrestling team at Saturday’s John Summa Memorial Invitational at Baldwin Wallace University.
Not only did Evans win the crown, but he became the all-time winningest wrestler in Yellow Jacket history.
After going 5-0 on the day, the junior standout ran his collegiate record to 125-17, which surpasses Evans’ former teammate Filippo Crivelli (’17), who racked up 121 victories in his Yellow Jacket career. The number-seven ranked heavyweight in Division III rolled into the finals as the top seed, scoring two pins and two technical falls.
He squared off with Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Gage Gladysz of Thiel for the second time in eight days in the finals. Evans improved to 2-0 against the sophomore by scoring an 8-1 decision.
