For the second time in his varsity career, Gavin Teasdale lost a match.
The three-time PIAA Class AA champion from Jefferson-Morgan High School, dropped an 8-4 decision to Caleb Rea of Weir High School in Weirton, W.Va., Saturday. Teasdale was competing in the Buckeye Local Panther Classic finals at 132 pounds.
Rea dropped from 138 to meet Teasdale, who came up from 126 pounds. Teasdale is ranked No. 6 in the nation at 126 pounds and Rea is No. 3 at 138.
Teasdale’s first loss of his career came against Beau Bartlett of Wyoming Seminary, 4-3, in the finals of the Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament at Canon-McMillan.
Teasdale is attempting to become only the 13th wrestler in PIAA history to win four state titles. One of the 12 is another Jefferson-Morgan product, Cary Kolat, who finished his scholastic career with a 137-0 record.
