Trinity running back Joey Koroly scores a second-quarter touchdown Friday night against Uniontown.

All Joey Koroly has to do is walk to the edge of a parking lot at Trinity High School and look down the hill, toward College Field, to see where he’ll be playing football at next season.

Koroly, a 4,000-yard running back and 1,000-point scorer in basketball for the Hillers, decided he will continue his football career at Washington & Jefferson College.

“I never really thought about playing there until the coaching staff came up to the school one day,” Koroly said. “That’s when I realized it was possible to still be close to my family and friends and continue playing.”

The leading rusher in Trinity history with 4,428 yards, Koroly, also a defensive back, said he is willing to help wherever its necessary for the Presidents, although he prefers to stay in the offensive backfield.

Koroly, a senior at Trinity, narrowed his decision to W&J and Mercyhurst, most recently taking a visit to the latter before deciding on staying close to home.

He took his visit to W&J over Christmas break.

“(W&J’s) coaching staff is great,” he said. “In all the conversations I had with them, they were confident in me succeeding as both a player and a student. It was very welcoming. For me to be close to home, having people close to me to show support every game and playing for my hometown is special.”

Koroly isn’t completely ruling out playing basketball after what he hopes will be a long playoff run for Trinity in the WPIAL playoffs. He might be open to playing both sports after his freshman year.
