Mapletown’s season ends with loss to Aquinas Academy

BALDWIN – Junior guard Anni Truschel scored a game-high 18 points and Aquinas Academy held Mapletown to six points over the middle two quarters en route to a 51-26 victory over the Maples in a WPIAL Class A first round girls basketball playoff game Saturday afternoon at Baldwin High School.

Aquinas Academy (15-5), the Section 3 runner-up, advances to play fourth-seeded Sewickley Academy in the quarterfinals. Mapletown ends the season with a 9-14 record.

After building an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Aquinas Academy outscored Mapletown 23-6 over the next two quarters.

Mary Casamassa scored 13 points for Aquinas Academy.

Mapletown, which has only one senior on its roster, was led in scoring by junior Kayla Smith, who had 12 points. Senior Taylor Vanata scored nine points.
