Parson’s 30 points power Cal past Seton Hill
Shatara Parsons scored 30 points in 39 minutes and California University’s defense held Seton Hill to just eight first-quarter points in a 68-54 victory in a PSAC game at the Convocation Center.
Parsons scored 15 points in both halves as the Vulcans (17-4, 22-5), who held a 37-28 edge at intermission. Seton Hill (14-7, 19-8) never led in the game and trailed by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter.
Parsons, a 6-0 senior forward, hit 13 of 21 shots and 4 of 8 from the free throw line. Parsons pulled down 10 rebounds and had three blocks and six steals.
Mia Cushon, a 5-8 junior guard, scored 12 points and had four of Cal’s 16 steals. D.J. Hahn, a 5-10 sophomore guard, scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebound.
Alexandra Hay led Seton hill with 15 points and Cheyenne Trest, a graduate of Canon-McMillan, scored 13 points.
Grove City 80, Waynesburg 46: Lexie Arkwright and Kate Balcom combined for 45 points to propel Grove City to an 80-46 victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament at Grove City.
Arkwright scored 25 points and Balcom 20 for the Wolverines (17-8), the No. 4 seed. Jess Bowen was the only other player in double figures with 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Laura Buchanan added 7 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Waynesburg, the No. 5 seed, was paced again by Addy Knetzer, who scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds. Waynesburg trailed 41-31 at halftime and was outscored, 26-11, in the third quarter.
Men’s result
Seton Hill 84, California 64: Trevor Blondin and Spencer Casson combined for 49 points and Seton Hill broke open a close game in the second half to defeat host California 84-64 in a PSAC West Division game.
Blondin scored a game-high 29 points on 12-of-22 shooting, and Casson added 20, making nine of 11 shots.
Both teams are 6-15 in the conference and 10-17 overall.
Seton Hill led 42-39 at halftime and 58-50 with a little more than 12 minutes remaining. The Griffins then enbarked on a 10-0 run, with Casson scoring four points, and Cal was never able to recover.
Isaiah Lewis paced the Vulcans with 15 points, Paul Alexander had 13 and Jahmere Howze 10.
