Charleroi hires Getsy

1 min read

Lance Getsy, an assistant coach at Franklin Regional High School last season, was hired Tuesday night as the head football coach at Charleroi Area High School by a vote of 7-0.

One school board member was absent and another abstained, Charleroi Athletic Director Bill Wiltz confirmed.

Getsy, who is the brother of Luke Getsy – former Pitt quarterback and current Mississippi State offensive coordinator – takes over a Cougars’ program coming off its best season in many years.

He succeeds Donnie Militzer, who resigned several weeks ago admist speculation his position would be opened.

Charleroi finished second in the Class AA Century Conference behind eventual WPIAL champion Washington. The Cougars went 9-1 during the regular season before being upset by Avonworth in the first-round of the post-season.

Getsy formerly was an assistant coach at Elizabeth Forward for a few years under former coach Mike LaDonne.

He played college football at Slippery Rock University.

Charleroi returns a bevy of key players in 2018, including quarterback Geno Pelligrini and receiver Dakota Romantino.
