McGuffey High School had five placewinners and finished second in the team scoring Saturday at the Fred Bell Invitational held in Grove City.

Kane won the title at the 37-team tournament followed by McGuffey and General McLane in third place.

Christian Clutter was the Highlanders’ top finisher as he placed second at 170 pounds. Luke Shingle (182) and Dalton Lough (195) each had third-place finishes, Jett Pattison (126) placed fourth and Marshall Mounts (220) was fifth to round out of the Highlanders’ placewinners.

Meadows cancels races

Races have been canceled at the Meadows Racetrack Monday through Wednesday as the Bureau of Animal Health is taking “precautionary measures” to avoid further contamination from an EVH outbreak which happened in several of the track’s stables last week, according to a release from the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association.

Barns 5, 19 and 23 were placed under quarantine Saturday to go along with the previously quarantined Barns 6 and 21, the release said.

The horses in the barns that were quarantined Saturday, showed elevated body temperatures but were not symptomatic of EVH, the release said.

The Racing Commission, Bureau of Animal Health, Meadows management and MSOA are continuing to monitor the EVH outbreak.

In the NBA

Oklahoma City forward Paul George will replace injured New Orleans center DeMarcus Cousins on Team LeBron in the NBA All-Star Game.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver made the decision Saturday, a day after Cousins went down for the season with an Achilles tear. The All-Star Game is Feb. 18 in Los Angeles.

  • Carmelo Anthony surpassed the 25,000-point milestone and Russell Westbrook added 31 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds to lift the surging Oklahoma City Thunder to a 121-108 victory over the Detroit Pistons Saturday night.
  • Cleveland Cavaliers guard Isaiah Thomas denied a rift with Kevin Love, insisting there is no “bad blood” between the teammates.

Following days of drama with the never-a-dull-moment Cavs, Thomas spoke Saturday to reporters for the first time since the struggling team – Cleveland is 4-7 in January – held a heated meeting that came after Love went home during a lopsided loss to San Antonio last Saturday because the All-Star was sick and then missed practice the following day. At Monday’s pre-practice meeting, Thomas was among the players who challenged Love’s absences.

But Thomas said any belief that he specifically targeted Love is inaccurate.

Correction
