Wild Things lose lead, game

NORMAL, Ill. – Nick Cain’s two-run single highlighted a four-run eighth inning and propelled the Normal Cornbelters to a 6-2 win over the visiting Wild Things in a Frontier League game Wednesday night.

The loss dropped Washington to second place in the East Division.

Andrew Godbold and James Davison Jr., each had RBI singles in the inning.

The Wild Things opened an early 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and second innings. James Harris gave Washington a 1-0 lead when he opened the game with a home run, his 10th of the season.

Jordan Edgerton made it 2-0 in the second when he smacked his second homer of the season.

But Normal rallied to tie the game with a run in the third and sixth innings. Derrick Loveless singled home Justin Fletcher, who opened the third inning with a double. In the sixth inning, Santiago Chirino singled in Cody Erickson, who walked to start the inning.

Washington starter Michael Austin pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run but walked four. David Adkins allowed four runs in the eighth and took the loss.
