CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Washington’s bullpen tossed five strong innings in relief to stave off a Windy City comeback and win 7-4.

The Wild Things (11-8) took a 4-1 lead after three and a half innings, with James Harris knocking in two runs. Harris singled home Mike Hill in the second and tripled home Justin Bohn in the fourth. Mick Fennell also tallied an RBI, grounding out in the fourth.

The ThunderBolts (7-10) battled back in the fourth, scoring three runs off starter Frank Trimarco, who entered the game with a 1.08 ERA. Tim Zier hit a two-run double and then scored on an error by Hill.

After Hector Roa scored on a passed ball in the fifth to give the Things a 5-4 lead, three Washington relief pitchers followed Trimarco with five shutout innings.

Trevor Bradley (1-0) threw two perfect innings to earn the win, and Sam Mersing followed with two shutout innings. They allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two in their four innings.

Zach Strecker shut the door in the ninth for his sixth save. The righty has not allowed a run in his 10 innings this season.

Hill made up for his fourth-inning error and gave the relievers insurance in the eighth inning with a two-run home run, his second of the season.

The Things take on Windy City in the second game of the three-game set. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
