C-M baseball, West Greene-Monessen softball rained out

Heavy rain Sunday played havoc with the PIAA baseball and softball schedule Monday.
Canon-McMillan’s Class 6A baseball semifinal against Council Rock North, and the Monessen-West Greene game in the Class A softball semifinals were postponed because of wet field conditions. They will be played today. Canon-McMillan will play at Greene Township Park in Scotland at 4:30 p.m. The fourth meeting of the season between Monessen and West Greene will be played at Peterswood Park in McMurray beginning at 2 p.m.
The Monessen-West Greene winner will face Williams Valley in the final Thursday. West Greene and Williams Valley played in the state championship game each of the last two years.
If Canon-McMillan wins its game, then the Big Macs will have one more day of rest than originally anticipated before playing in the finals.
The PIAA announced Monday morning that it has switched the dates for the Class 6A and 5A baseball finals to accommodate graduations scheduled for some of the schools in the semifinals. The Class 6A title game will be played Friday, 3:30 p.m. at Penn State’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The 5A final has been moved from Friday afternoon to Thursday.
