5 min read

The Houston Astros keep finding ways to win, while the Kansas City Royals keep inventing ways to lose.

Carlos Correa and the Astros won their 11th straight game, finishing off a dominant 10-0 road trip by rallying past the Royals 7-4 Sunday.

The World Series champion Astros swept their swing through Texas, Oakland and Kansas City, outscoring opponents 74-35.

Last season, Houston had an 11-game winning streak end in Kansas City. This time, the Astros trailed 4-3 in the eighth inning before Correa led off with a tying homer. Evan Gattis, who had three hits, then put them ahead during a three-run burst.

Detroit 3, Chicago White Sox 1: Nicholas Castellanos homered and Blaine Hardy pitched one-run ball into the sixth, leading the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 3-1 for their fifth straight win.

Jose Iglesias added an RBI single as Detroit improved to 8-1 against the White Sox this season, including 6-0 at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Tampa Bay 3, N.Y. Yankees 1: Wilmer Font held the high-scoring Yankees in check in the latest Tampa Bay game “started” by a reliever, and the Rays held off New York 3-1 to avoid a sweep.

Matt Duffy drove in two runs with a second-inning single for his first multi-RBI game in over a month.

Cleveland 4, Minnesota 1: Shane Bieber pitched one-run ball into the sixth inning in his first major league win, helping the Cleveland Indians beat the Minnesota Twins 4-1.

Bieber scattered 10 hits and struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings in his second career start. The rookie right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day when Carlos Carrasco went on the 10-day disabled list with a bruised right elbow.

Oakland 6, L.A. Angels 5: Jonathan Lucroy hit an RBI single off the center-field wall in the 11th inning and the Oakland Athletics capped their comeback with a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Boston 9, Seattle 3: Rafael Devers, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Xander Bogaerts all homered and the Boston Red Sox routed the Seattle Mariners 9-3.

Devers’ 11th homer of the season capped a five-run, two-out rally in the third against Seattle starter Mike Leake (7-4).

National League

Atlanta 4, San Diego 1: Julio Teheran pitched six no-hit innings before being pulled from his first start since coming off the disabled list, and Atlanta relievers gave up six hits while the Braves finished off a 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres.

The Braves’ bid for a combined no-hitter ended with one out in the seventh when reliever Shane Carle allowed a single to Cory Spangenberg. Freddy Galvis added another single before Carle pitched out of the jam.

Philadelphia 10, Milwaukee 9: Maikel Franco homered and drove in four runs and the Philadelphia Phillies held off Milwaukee’s ninth-inning rally to beat the Brewers 10-9.

Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera also homered as the Phillies took two of three from the Brewers, who are tied with Atlanta for the best record in the NL.

San Francisco 4, L.A. Dodgers 1: Nick Hundley and Brandon Belt each hit two-run home runs and Chris Stratton pitched six solid innings to help the San Francisco Giants avoid a three-game sweep at Los Angeles with a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers.

Hundley got the Giants going early with a homer in the first inning, halfway up the pavilion seats in left field for his eighth of the season. Belt followed two innings later with his 12th home run and first since returning from an appendectomy June 1.

N.Y. Mets 5, Arizona 3: Brandon Nimmo and Asdrubal Cabrera homered off Brad Boxberger in a four-run ninth inning and the New York Mets rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3.

The Diamondbacks led 3-1 entering the ninth and Boxberger (1-3), with his third blown save in 20 tries, struck out the first two batters.

Interleague

Toronto 8, Washington 6: Teoscar Hernandez and Yangervis Solarte broke a tie with back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning, Randal Grichuk added a pair of solo homers and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 8-6 to complete a three-game sweep.

Hernandez and Solarte connected off Ryan Madson (1-3) as the Blue Jays won their seventh consecutive home game. Hernandez hit his 12th home run while Solarte’s was his team-leading 15th.

Baltimore 10, Miami 4: Jace Peterson and Mark Trumbo homered and the Baltimore Orioles snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 10-4 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Baltimore also ended a string of 11 straight losses at home, which tied a club record. The Orioles last win at Camden Yards came May 13 against Tampa Bay.

Texas 13, Colorado 12: Jose Trevino blooped a two-run single, capping a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that sent the Texas Rangers over the Colorado Rockies 13-12.

Rockies closer Wade Davis (0-2) retired only one batter while walking four and allowing singles to Rougned Odor and Trevino.
