Boys Track & Field MVP – Daniel Layton

Daniel Layton had a track season filled with ups and downs. The junior from Waynesburg High School had more ups, finishing third in the pole vault and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in the PIAA Class AA Track & Field Championship at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University. At the WPIAL Championships at Baldwin High School, Layton won the 110-meter hurdles and took second place in the pole vault. Had it not been for his determination to succeed at the state meet, his performance in the pole vault might not have happened. Layton ran the hurdles finals before competing in the pole vault at Shippensburg and things did not go well. Layton hit the first hurdle and fell. He got up and finished, taking eighth place. He suffered scrapes and cuts but still went on to the pole vault. Layton vaulted to a personal record (14-6) and a third-place finish.
