Canon-McMillan celebrates after beating North Allegheny in the WPIAL Class 6A baseball championship game Wednesday, May 30 at Wild Things Park.

In 2008, Canon-McMillan won the state Class 4A baseball championship. Ten years later, the Big Macs, with a talented, experienced and determined group of players, made some magic and memories of their own by winning the school’s first WPIAL baseball title, defeating North Allegheny in a thrilling championship game, and advancing to the state championship. Battle-tested from games against top-notch competition in rugged Section 3 of Class 6A, the Big Macs won three postseason games by 2-1 scores and another by a 2-0 margin, then won a rematch with North Allegheny, 6-3, in the state quarterfinals and edged Council Rock North, 4-1, to get the finals against Bensalem. That game had not yet been played at press time for this edition. The Big Macs were a team built on solid pitching and defense but showed in many clutch situations that it had enough hitting to win big games, just like the 2008 team.
