Jason Fowlkes is proof that hard work and dedication pays off in the long run with improvement. A reserve as a junior at Canon-McMillan, Fowlkes remained dedicated to developing his skills and blossomed into the premiere player this season for the Big Macs, who had a breakout and school-record 21-win season. Fowlkes averaged 17.3 points per game playing at the Class 6A level. After the season, the Slippery Rock recruit scored 47 points in the opening game of the 43rd Annual Pennsylvania vs. Maryland All-Star weekend in Harrisburg, and scored 22 points and was named the Most Valuable Player for the Class 6A team in the Roundball Classic. “Jason is a prime example of a kid who put in the work,” said C-M coach Rick Bell. “He was here every day. The times he couldn’t get in (the gym), I remember him outside shooting in the near-dark. He would be outside in the cold just shooting away. That kind of dedication – there aren’t a lot of guys who have that.”
