Pirates’ bullpen battered by Orioles
Jonathan Schoop hit a solo home run and Dylan Bundy gave up one run over five innings as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 in a spring training game Monday in Bradenton, Fla.
Pitcher Tyler Glasnow was scheduled to start for Pittsburgh but was scratched from the lineup because of flu-like symptoms.
Alex McRae started in place of Glasnow and threw three shutout innings. McRae has won 18 games over the past two seasons for Class AA Altoona.
The Pirates’ bullpen gave up five runs in the fourth inning and eight runs over a five-inning stretch. Relievers Dovydas Neverauskas and Jordan Milbrath, each battling for one of the few open roster spots out of the bullpen, combined to give up six earned runs on six hits and three walks.
Pittsburgh had 13 hits. Josh Harrison, Corey Dickerson, Gregory Polanco, Colin Moran and Francisco Cervelli each had two hits. Jose Osuna drove in a two runs.
