Monessen’s Henderson named to all-state team

Monessen High School junior guard Lyndon Henderson was selected to the third team in Class A on the 2017-18 Sports Writers Pennsylvania All-State Boys Basketball Teams released Tuesday afternoon.
Henderson was the only local boys basketball player named to the team.
Henderson, who was named to the Observer-Reporter Boys All-District second team, averaged 21 points and four rebounds per game. He might have had the individual performance of the year when he scored 55 points in a regular-season game against Geibel Catholic in January.
With the graduation of guards Jaden Altomore and Justice Rice, Henderson was the main scoring threat for the Greyhounds this season. He led Monessen to an undefeated record in section (9-0), which gave the Greyhounds a fifth consecutive section championship.
Other WPIAL players to make the all-state teams in their respective classifications included: Ethan Morton (Butler), Phil Jurkovec (Pine-Richland), Amante Britt (Woodland Hills), Robby Carmody (Mars), Bryce Laskey (Laurel Highlands), Marcus Hooker (New Castle), Coletrane Washington (Quaker Valley), Isiah Warfield (Sewickley Academy), Donovan Johnson (OLSH), Austin Wigley (OLSH), Tré Cunningham (Jeannette) and Zach McDonough (Vincentian Academy).
