High school softball
Mattie Telegraphis homered and drove in 3 runs to lead Monessen past Southmoreland, 5-3, in a non-section game.
Maddie Guzzie doubled and Carlie Rock had 3 singles for the Greyhounds (13-3).
Charity Henderson doubled, homered, drove in a runand scored twice for the Scotties (7-7), who have lost 4 straight.
- With the game tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning, Canon-McMillan exploded for six runs to defeat Trinity 11-5.
Sydney Senay smacked the big hit for C-M (9-6) with a three-run home run that put the Big Macs up 9-5 over Trinity (12-7).
Katelyn Greaves also led the Big Macs offense with a double and two RBI. Elika Mowery earned the win in relief. She struck out two and walked two in her two scoreless innings of relief.
High school baseball
An 11-run third inning pushed Chartiers-Houston to a 15-9 victory over Brashear in a non-section game.
Cam Hanley 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI for the Bucs (12-4). Matt Whited homered and drove in 2 runs, Brian Price was 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI, Noah Minney doubled and drove in 2, and Chase Bitz tripled and drove in 2.
Moises Terrero homered and drove in 2 and DaQuann Pratt tripled and drove in 2 runs for Brashear (1-14).
- Beth-Center scored nine runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second inning to defeat Mapletown 17-2.
Aided by four Mapletown (4-12) errors, the Bulldogs (9-8) offense was led by Dylan Dingle, Andrew Bower, Noah Meyers and Tom Donahoo each went 2-for-2. Dingle and Hunter Bower each hit doubles for B-C’s only extra-base hits.
Cameron Palmer was the winning pitcher, striking out six and walking none in three innings.
- Wash High smacked two home runs en route to an 11-1 non-section win over Monessen.
Jordan Swart and Jack Kern both went 3-for-3 with a home run to lead the Prexies offense in the mercy-rule victory. Wash High (6-12) scored one run in the first, seven in the second and three in the third to win the game in five innings.
John Griffin was the winning pitcher, allowing only one run in five innings. He also went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
Cory Fleming’s double was the only extra-base hit for Monessen (10-6).
Pony baseball
Danny Olbrys tripled to help Perry down Donora-Monessen 13-11 in a Mon Valley Pony game.
Brayden Baccino doubled for Perry (1-1).
Jack Sacco doubled to pace Donora-Monessen (0-1)
Arrest made in Gronk burglary
Massachusetts police say a third suspect has been arrested in connection with a burglary at Rob Gronkowsi’s house while the New England Patriots star was away at the Super Bowl.
Foxborough Police Chief William Baker said Thursday that 26-year-old Shane Denn was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Maine. Further details weren’t immediately available.
Baker says authorities will seek to have Denn extradited to Massachusetts.
Two other men, Eric Tyrrell and Anthony Almeida, have pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with the February break-in.
Authorities earlier recovered an Apple watch, a Rolex watch and rare coins allegedly stolen from one of Gronkowski’s roommates.
Three handguns belonging to the roommate have not been recovered.
Denn also was wanted in connection with several other attempted robberies in Massachusetts.
In the majors
Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price says video games may have contributed to his carpal tunnel syndrome, but are not the cause of the condition. Price is set to start Saturday at Toronto. He has not pitched since May 3.
- Adam Jones homered, scored three runs and had three RBIs, and the Baltimore Orioles outslugged the Kansas City Royals 11-6 to emerge with their second winning streak of the season.
Manny Machado and Trey Mancini also went deep for the Orioles, who trailed 4-0 in the first inning and 6-3 in the second before rallying to beat the Royals for the second night in a row.
- Vince Velasquez recovered from a slow start to strike out 12 in six innings, Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the San Francisco Giants 6-3 for a four-game sweep.
Odubel Herrera added three hits and drove in two runs. He extended his on-base streak to 39 games. The Phillies improved to 15-5 at home.
