Wild Things rally to win opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Hector Roa and Reydel Medina hit consecutive doubles that gave Washington the lead in the top of the eighth and Kyle Pollock capped the Wild Things’ big inning with a two-run homer that led to a 7-4 victory over the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League opener Friday night at Bosse Field.
Washington trailed 4-3 entering the eighth and Evansville pitchers had retired 13 consecutive Wild Things until Mick Fennell led off the inning with a walk off reliever Kyano Cummings (0-1). Two outs later, Roa hit a game-tying double into right centerfield. Medina followed with a double that scored Roa and gave Washington the lead.
Pollock then launched a two-run homer to left field that made it a 7-4 score.
Evansville broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the sixth off reliever Frank Trimarco (1-0), who gave up only two hits over 3? innings. He struck out six. Zach Strecker got the final three outs for a save.
Washington’s James Harris hit a solo home run in the third inning.
Wild Things starter Chase Cunningham had an out-of-control outing, walking six in four innings.
