Zubik gets invite to Steelers camp
Wide receiver Jesse Zubik, safety Malik Duncan and safety Ross Douglas were added to the Steelers rookie minicamp roster Saturday.
Zubik (5-10, 180) of Washington & Jefferson was a first-team American Football Coach’s Association All-American and an Associated Press Division III first-team All-American this past year. In addition, he was a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which goes to the top player in NCAA Division III.
He caught 84 passes in 2017 for 1,408 yards and 17 touchdowns. A Sewickley native, Zubik is a graduate of Avonworth High School.
Last month at the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena in Cheswick, 15 seniors from Pennsylvania colleges – ranging from Division I FCS to Division III – went through a set of drills similar to what the NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis requires. It was by invitation only and Zubik obviously impressed.
The workout was set up with the help of John Luckhardt, who was the football coach at Washington & Jefferson and California University.
Scouts from the Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons, and a representative from the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL attended the workout.
On Zubik’s Twitter account is the phrase, “One Life, One Chance … Making the Most of It.”
Duncan, from Saint Francis University had 147 total tackles in addition to 7 interceptions and 28 total pass breakups in 44 career college games.
Douglas, a Rutgers product, is a converted running back. He had 42 total tackles in 2018 in addition to 4 pass breakups. He played at safety and strong-side linebacker in his two seasons at Rutgers.
