Canon-McMillan knocks off Fox Chapel in slugfest
Canon-McMillan and Fox Chapel engaged in a slugfest, combining for 27 runs, 26 hits and 2 errors.
But the only thing that mattered was Canon-McMillan coming out ahead, 15-12, in a WPIAL Class 6A first-round softball playoff game at Boyce Mayview Park.
The Big Macs move onto the second round against top-seeded Hempfield.
Kayla Kubicki had a double, single and drove in three runs as C-M enjoyed a 7-run fifth inning. Olivia Ulam went 4-for-4 and knocked in 3 runs and Erica Haught went 4-for-5 with an RBI and 3 runs. Elli Kotar went 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI and Katelyn Greaves doubled and drove in 2 runs.
Brianna O’Malley hit a 3-run home run for Fox Chapel and Jessica Klein drove in 3 runs.
- In another slugfest, Peters Township scored 7 runs in the seventh inning to down Seneca Valley, 16-13, in the first round of the WPIAL Class 6A softball playoffs at West Allegheny.
The Indians advance to the second round against No. 3-seed Latrobe.
Madi Morgan went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI for PT. Jill Yeates homered, drove in 2 and scored 4 runs. Kate Hondru went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Karli Hacker had a home run, 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs to paceSeneca Valley. Maura Pasquale hit a 2-run home run.
- Bailey Shimek singled twice and drove in 3 runs to help Waynesburg down Freedom, 7-3 in a first-round game in the WPIAL Class AAA game at Baldwin.
Waynesburg will play second-seeded Freeport in the second round.
Rachel Elsenheimer had a double and 2 RBI and Sydney Hare and Brooke Coss each hit a double.
Trish Speicher drove in 2 runs for Freedom.
