Big first half lifts Cal past Seton Hill
GREENSBURG – Nelson Brown rushed for three touchdowns and California University scored 35 first-half points Saturday as the Vulcans defeated Seton Hill 49-34 in a PSAC West game at Offutt Field.
Each of Brown’s touchdowns covered two yards. Vulcans quarterbacks Noah Mitchell and Brian Alsobrooks combined for three touchdown passes as Cal improved to 5-2 in the division and 6-4 overall.
Mitchell threw touchdown passes of four yards to Chad Livingston and 24 yards to Tyson Hill late in the first quarter to break a 7-7 tie.
Seton Hill (1-6, 1-9) closed to within 35-28 on the first of two short touchdown runs by Logan Wiland in the fourth quarter. Brown, however, ran for his third score, and a little more than a minute later the Vulcans’ Derek Lockhardt recovered a fumble in the end zone to give Cal a 49-28 advantage.
Alsobrooks, who booted seven extra points, completed eight of 15 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown in relief of Mitchell.
