Brown ticketed
for going 100 mph
Police said Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was stopped for speeding over 100 mph in his Porsche, just hours before the team’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Ross Township police tell WPXI-TV that an officer was searching for a bank robbery suspect Thursday when a black Porsche sped by.
The officer pulled the car over and the driver was identified as Brown. He was cited for reckless driving.
The Steelers said they’re aware of the situation and won’t have further comment. A message seeking comment from his publicist wasn’t immediately returned.
The Steelers have a game against the Panthers on Thursday night at Heinz Field.
The Panthers have won three games in a row while Pittsburgh has put together four straight wins to take control of the AFC North.
In golf
Paul Goydos and Tim Petrovic shot 8-under 63 to share the lead in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, leaving points leader Bernhard Langer seven strokes back in the PGA Tour Champions’ season finale.
In sunny, 80-degree conditions at Phoenix Country Club, Langer parred the final nine holes for a 70.
All-PAC soccer
Senior Brianna Floryshak, senior Nicole Walters and freshman Katie Hahn received All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference recognition for Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer on Thursday.
Floryshak was named to the first team. Hahn and Walters each made the second team. This is Hahn’s first selection. Walters has been recognized three times.
For Waynesburg, sophomore forward Emily Hill and junior goalkeeper Courtney Syfert were named second team and honorable mention, respectively.
On the men’s side for Waynesburg, senior Tyler Sisler became the first Yellow Jacket to make first-team since 2014 after finishing among Waynesburg’s leaders in goals, assists and total points.
Sophomore Daniel Hott was named second team and junior midfielder Justin Buberl and senior defender Matt Hlasnick made honorable mention.
Washington & Jefferson’s Paul Mokrzan, Junior Mensah, Matt Prezioso, and Matt Kotkiewicz earned All-PAC honors.
Mokrzan, Mensah and Matt Prezioso made second team, and Kotkiewicz made honorable mention.
All-PSAC volleyball
California University placed a pair of players on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Volleyball Teams Thursday, highlighted by a first-team selection for junior outside hitter Rachel Priore.
Senior Lois van Schaik earned second-team honors.
Penguins donation nears $350,000
The Pittsburgh Penguins have donated nearly $350,000 to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to benefit the victims of last month’s synagogue massacre. The Penguins on Thursday presented $348,705 to the federation and representatives of the Tree of Life Synagogue.
The team launched the “Stronger Than Hate” fundraising campaign after the Oct. 27 shooting that killed 11 congregants. They auctioned off signed jerseys and sold “Stronger Than Hate” patches.
In the NHL
Shayne Gostisbehere scored on a one-timer 1:01 into overtime after Dale Weise tied the game with 2:13 left in regulation, and the Philadelphia Flyers rallied past the Arizona Coyotes 5-4.
Scott Laughton had two goals and Travis Konecny also scored for the Flyers, who began a five-game homestand – their longest of the season – after earning seven of a possible eight points on a four-game trip out West.
