Cal’s Brown runs down Bloomsburg
CALIFORNIA – Nelson Brown rushed for 213 yards and scored three touchdowns to propel California University to a 28-13 victory over Bloomsburg in a PSAC crossover game on a cold Saturday afternoon.
California finished the season with a 7-4 record, Bloomsburg 6-5.
Brown scored on runs of 16, 23 and 2 yards for the Vulcans. Bloomsburg scored the first and last touchdowns of the game but Cal scored four consecutive times in between.
The 213 yards pushed Brown’s total to 1,201 for the season and his three scores sent his final season total to 21.
Noah Mitchell, who was replaced by Brian Alsobrooks during last week’s victory over Seton Hill because of a hand injury, played the entire game.
Mitchell completed 15 of 29 pass attempts for 170 yards and a touchdown. His 31-yard scoring pass to Tyson Hill gave Cal a 21-7 lead in the third quarter. Hill had five receptions for 70 yards.
Cal’s defense allowed only 208 total yards and sacked quarterback Blake Levengood four times. Defensive back Lamont McPhatter had two of the sacks. Linebacker London Cloud had a game-high 17 tackles.
