Sparked by 2 safeties, Carmichaels defense blanks Brownsville

CARMICHAELS — Kevin Kelly ran for a touchdown, passed for another Carmichaels scored two safeties in the third quarter during an 18-0 victory over Brownsville in an Interstate Conference game Friday night.

Brownsville (0-7, 0-10) lost a fumble at its on nine-yard line with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first half. On the next play, Kelly scored on a run to give the Mikes a 6-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Carmichaels (1-6, 2-7) scored two safeties, one on a bad shotgun snap and the other after Brownsvilel started a drive at its own three-yard line.

Following the second safety, Kelly threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Billy Piper, and Hunter Voithofer ran in the two-point conversion to close the scoring.

The teams combined for 14 fumbles in the muddy game. Brownsville was penalized 14 times.
