Pens donating funds to shooting victims
The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is making two donations to support victims and families of Saturday’s tragic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill.
The Penguins Foundation is donating $25,000 to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, and $25,000 to establish a fund with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety to benefit the four Pittsburgh Police officers injured in Saturday’s tragic events, it was announced today by Dave Soltesz, president of the Penguins Foundation.
The Pens will also hold a collection to benefit the victims and families at Tuesday’s game against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena. Fans not attending may make an online donation at http://treeoflife.givesmart.com/.
Water polo
Washington & Jefferson College concluded the weekend with a 13-9 exhibition win over Lindenwood’s club team.
Ian Geister capped the weekend with five goals and an assist to lead W&J to victory.
Will Kitsch was next on the team with four points on three goals and an assist. Dustin Reinke scored two goals to finish third on the Presidents. David Boyer started his second consecutive game and made nine saves and recorded a steal to earn his second victory in a row. Boyer was also credited with an assist.
In the NBA
Stephen Curry set another NBA record by making seven 3-pointers and finished with 35 points as the Golden State Warriors held on to beat the Brooklyn Nets 120-114. Kevin Durant added 34 for the Warriors.
In the NHL
Anthony Mantha helped the Detroit Red Wings win at home for the first time this season with a 4-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi , defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and Justin Abdelkader scored for Detroit (2-7-2).
- Alec Martinez scored with 55 seconds remaining, and the Los Angeles Kings stopped a six-game skid with a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers.
