Boys soccer: Bentworth rolls to program’s 200th victory
Brian Hustava led a high-powered Bentworth attack by scoring four goals in the Bearcats’ 7-1 victory at California in Section 4-A Tuesday. It was the 200th victory in Bentworth boys soccer history.
Bentworth (1-0 in section) scored five goals in the first half. Leyton Hustava scored a hat trick to finish off the scoring. Brendan Taylor had three assists. Jaxon Selvoski had five saves.
Faith Keene scored the lone goal for California.
• Beth-Center received goals from four different players and the Bulldogs pulled out a 4-3 victory over host Brownsville in Section 3-AA.
Tyler Dobrinski, Todd Fisher, Nick Frost and Dylan Ferguson each contributed a goal for Beth-Center (1-0, 2-1), which never trailed in the match.
• Waynesburg opened its Section 3-AA schedule with an impressive 7-1 victory at Yough.
Gavin Benson led the offense for the Raiders (1-0, -3) by scoring three goals. Dalton Woods, Scott Benco, Daniel Layton and Christian Mori each found the net for a goal.
• Despite two goals by Peters Township’s David Phillips, Upper St. Clair defeated the Indians 4-2 in the Section 2-AAAA opener. USC (1-0, 1-1) broke open the match in the second half after it was tied, 1-1, at halftime.
Cullin Wytovich scored five goals and assisted on another as Charleroi routed visiting Southmoreland 9-0 in the Section 3-AA opener.
Nick Laskey had a hat trick and one assist for Charleroi (1-0, 1-0). Phil Banks also had a goal.
