Fourth quarter rally nets Waynesburg first win

WAYNESBURG – Garrett Horne kicked a 20-yard field goal with 14 seconds to play to cap a fourth quarter rally and present Waynesburg University with its first win of the season, 10-7, over Geneva in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak and moves the Yellow Jackets to 1-2 in the PAC. Geneva fell to 2-2, including 2-1 in the conference.

Geneva took a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter when senior running back Trewon Marshall scored on a 10-yard run. Daniel Nordaas kicked the extra point. Marshall’s touchdown capped an eight-play, 67-yard drive.

The score stayed that way until Waynesburg tied the game in the fourth quarter when Tyler Perone hit Cole Booth with a 27-yard touchdown pass with 13:22 to play in the game. Horne added the extra point to complete the 5-play, 42-yard drive.

Geneva drove into Waynesburg territory but Nordaas missed on a 55-yard field goal as time expired.

Waynesburg’s defense had an strong game, holding Geneva to just eight yards passing and 216 total. Marshall ran for 157 yards on 32 carries.

Perone complete 14 of 23 passes for 175 yards and Chad Walker rushed for 75 yards on 21 carries. JuWuan Jones caught five passes for 96 yards.

Waynesburg had three players in double figures with tackles, led by Tyler Smith’s 12. He also forced a fumble. John-Glen Davis and Garrett Hepner each had 10. Brennan Sefick had an interception.
