Waynesburg holds on for 2nd straight PAC win
GREENVILLE – The Waynesburg University football team picked up its second straight win, a 24-21 triumph at Thiel Saturday afternoon in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.
Chad Walker rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown, and quarterback Tyler Perone hooked up with Nick Moretti on a 72-yard touchdown pass for the yellow Jackets.
Waynesburg (2-2, 2-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a 21-yard field goal by Garrett Horne on the Yellow Jackets’ opening drive.
The Tomcats (0-4, 0-5) countered with two touchdowns, a 22-yard touchdown pass to Josh Page from Marko Bakovic and a 39-yard scoring toss to David Pugh from Damon Smith to forge a 14-3 lead after one quarter.
Waynesburg regained the lead in the second quarter with two touchdowns. Walker caught a 5-yard pass from Moretti, who gave the Yellow Jackets a 17-14 halftime lead when he caught the long touchdown pass from Perone.
Walker scored on a one-yard plunge at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give Waynesburg a 24-14 lead, and Thiel made it a one-possession game with a five-yard touchdown pass from Bakovic to Alex Porco with 3:58 remaining.
Perone completed 16 of 26 passes for 185 passing yards. Moretti had six catches for 114 yards.
John-Glen Davis (eight) and Garrett Hepner (seven) led the Yellow Jackets in tackles.
