High school roundup: Quick turnaround for Peters Township baseball

It took Peters Township 13 innings for a 2-1 win over Bethel Park a night ago.

The Indians weren’t lacking any runs against Brashear.

Scoring at least five runs in three of the four innings, Peters Township rolled to a 24-2 victory over the Bulls in Class 6A Section 3.

Jackson McCloskey led the way for Peters Township (3-0, 6-3) with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Richi Ferris, Matthew Levy, Max Ciocco, Jake Dilucia and Nick Winslow all had a multi-hit game for the Indians, who collected 18 hits as a team. Winslow finished 2-for-3 with five RBI. Ciocco also went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI.

With the loss, Brashear falls to 0-3 in the section and 0-4 overall.

California 17, Mapletown 0: Sending 15 batters to the plate in the first inning, California exploded for 12 runs and went on inflict the mercy rule and defeat Mapletown, 17-0, in a three-inning Class A Section 2 game.

The final of the 12 runs for California (3-0, 4-1) came on a three-run homer from Brody Conner.

Nate Zemany went 3-for-3 with a triple for the Trojans, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Jacob Piktel had six strikeouts in three innings to earn the win for California.

Mapletown falls to 0-2 in the section and 0-5 overall.

Softball

Jefferson-Morgan 15, California 0: Scoring 14 runs in the first inning, Jefferson-Morgan defeated California in three innings, 15-0, in a Class A Section 2 game.

Jasmine Demaske homered for Jefferson-Morgan (3-0, 4-2), which has won three of its last four games. Autumn Gustovich tripled. Maddie Vandivner and Cait Dugan both doubled.

California falls to 0-3 in section and 0-5 overall.

Bentworth 15, Avella 0: Leah Lindley retired all nine batters for a perfect game as Bentworth routed Avella, 15-0, in a three-inning non-section game.

Lindley also doubled, went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs for Bentworth (1-2, 4-5) and Kaylie Anderson went 2-for-3, triple, scored twice and drove in three. Emilie Snyder tripled and Jessica Rothka doubled.

Avella is 0-2 and 0-4.

Jeannette 7, Washington 4: Faith Johnson struck out 12 to help Jeannette to a 7-4 victory over Washington in a non-section game.

Kierston Wormsley hit a solo homer for Wash High (2-4). Halea Ellis struck out seven.
