High school softball roundup: Carmichaels, Sinn shut out Bentworth

Kylie Sinn had seven strikeouts and only allowed two hits as Carmichaels shutout Class 2A Section 3 foe Bentworth, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon.

Sinn also did damage at the plate for Carmichaels (4-2, 5-3), going 1-for-2, walking twice, driving in three times and score a pair of runs.

Leah Lindley suffered the loss for Bentworth (1-2, 4-4) despite pitching a solid game. Four errors from the Bearcats scored five unearned runs. Lindley had six strikeouts.

South Allegheny 10, Waynesburg 0: Madison Taylor went 3-for-3, drove in three runs and scored twice as South Allegheny shut out Waynesburg, 10-0 in a five-inning in a Section 3 game in Class AAA.

Olivia Stetz went 2-for-4 and drove in two for the Gladiators (4-1, 10-1). Courtney Woytovich allowed four hits and struck out two.

Bailee Shimek went 2-for-2 for the Raiders (1-3, 4-4).

Seton LaSalle 8, Burgettstown 4: Seton LaSalle jumped out to an 8-0 lead and hung on for an 8-4 victory over Burgettstown in a section 1-AA game.

Seton LaSalle (3-2, 3-5) scored three runs in the second, two each in the third and fourth and one in the fifth before Burgettstow (3-2, 3-6) rallied for three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Hadley Horensky had a double and three RBI and Caitlyn Guerriero added a double and two RBI for Seton LaSalle.

Chartiers-Houston 22, Beth-Center 0: Chartiers-Houston scored 16 runs in the first inning and drubbed Beth-Center, 22-0, in a three-inning Section 3-AA game.

Kaci Alderson and Kasey Scears each batted in four runs for the Bucs (5-0, 9-1). Lober went 2-for-2 with a double and triple. Nicolette Kloes had two doubles, three RBI and scored twice. Ella Brookman finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. She also did not allow a hit.

Beth-Center fell to 0-4 in the section and overall.

West Greene 10, Jefferson-Morgan 0: West Greene improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in Section 2-A with a 10-0, 6-inning win over Jefferson-Morgan in Section 2-A.

McKenna Lampe tripled, drew a walk, stole 2 bases and scored twice for the Pioneers (3-0, 6-3). Kaitlyn Rizor added a couple hits and drove in a run. Jade Renner was 2-for-3, with a walk, and Katie Lampe score twice in the courtesy spot. In the circle, Jade picked up the win, striking out 12. She struck out every batter in the Rockets lineup at least once, and had 4 strikeouts in the 5th inning.

Brianna Amos was 2-for-4, with 3 RBI, including a 2-run homer. Jersey Wise went 2-for-3, scored twice, and invoked the mercy rule by leading off the bottom of the 6th inning with a walk-off solo home run. Kylie Simms added a bases-clearing 3-run double in the first inning.

Autumn Gustovich had Jefferson-Morgan’s only hit, and Caitlyn Dugan took the loss, walking 4. The Rockets are 3-1 and 4-3.

Baldwin 11, Canon-McMillan 7: A six-run fourth inning did the most damage in Baldwin’s 11-7 victory over Canon-McMillan in a Section 1 game in Class 6A.

Cheyenne Shandor hit a two-run home run and Casey Carlson cracked a three-run shot for the Highlanders (6-1, 7-1).

Grace Higgins homered and brought in three runs and Elika Mowery doubled and drove in two for the Big Macs (4-2, 5-3).

California 19, Avella 3: Mylaina Pendo and Ashley Gush each had a multi-hit game as California only needed four innings to cruise past Avella in a Class A Section 2 game, 19-3.

Pendo went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and scored twice. Gush finished the afternoon 2-for-4, driving in three runs and hitting a double.

It is the first win of the season for the Trojans, who improve to 1-3 in the section and 1-5 overall.

Jordan Rush had a pair of hits for Avella (0-3, 0-5).

Belle Vernon 24, Carrick 4: Four players had a multi-hit game for Belle Vernon as it rolled Carrick, 24-4, in a Class 4A Section 2 game that only needed four innings.

Natalie French and Sophie Godzak each had three hits for Belle Vernon (3-2, 5-5). Ally Pacak had a pair of hits and four RBI. Ashley Joll had a pair of singles for the Leopards.

Nyriah Molnar hit a three-run homer for the Leopards.

Carrick falls to 0-5 in section and overall.

Charleroi 9, McGuffey 3: Kylie Quigley shined in the circle and Charleroi kept its foot on the gas offensively for a 9-3 win over McGuffey in Class 2A Section 3.

Quigley struck out 15 in seven innings for the Cougars, who gave her some breathing room with two runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth.

Katie Reed had a pair of doubles for Charleroi (2-3, 4-3). Jocelyn Polonoli went 3-for-4 and Phoebe Wentzell had a pair of hits.

Katie Seabright had two singles for McGuffey (1-3, 1-4).

South Fayette 4, West Allegheny 2: South Fayette extended its winning streak by knocking off the top first-place West Allegheny, 4-2, in a Class 5A Section 3 game.

It’s the four consecutive victory for the Lions, who improve to 3-2 in the section and 6-4 overall.

West Allegheny falls to 4-2 in the section and 4-3 overall.

Trinity 10, Moon 4: Emma Morgan hit a three-run homer and was the winning pitcher as Trinity downed Moon, 10-4, in a Class 5A Section 3 game.

Trinity improves to 3-1 in the section and 6-2 overall.

Moon falls to 3-2 in section play and 3-3 overall.
