College track
The California University track team posted nine Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-qualifying marks and six individuals posted personal records over the weekend at the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell.
Freshman Divonne Franklin and junior Alicia Collier each recorded top-five finishes in the 200-meter dash.
Additionally, Collier and Franklin finished among the top 15 overall in the 100-meter dash and each posted a PSAC time in the event. Collier placed 11th overall with a time of 12.48 seconds and Franklin finished in 14th place with a time of 12.54 seconds.
Junior Erin Meckler improved her PSAC-qualifying mark in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5-3.26 feet) to finish 10th. Sophomore Aaliyah Lewis set a personal record and improved her league mark in the triple jump with a distance of 10.91 meters (35-9.5 feet). Alexis Wagner also established a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 10.30 meters (33-9.5 feet).
Freshman Saralynn Vance qualified for the league championships in the 1500-meter run at Bucknell with a personal record of 5 minutes, 1.69 seconds. Sophomore Tatiana Beaufils reached the conference standard and set a personal record in the 800-meter run after rounding the track in 2:22.17, which was over a two-second improvement on her previous career-best time.
- The Waynesburg University women’s track & field team traveled to the Westminster Invitational. There was no team scoring at the event.
Freshman Aubrey Wingeart turned in another stellar outing on the track by besting 35 other competitors in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 18:11.04 not only allowed her to break the tape, but it was 16 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Senior Teghan Simonton joined Wingeart as a race winner by posting the top time in the 10,000-meter run. Her winning mark of 40:23.62 was more than two minutes quicker than the runner up.
Sophomore Nicole Sheltonwas second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:13.47.
LSU reinstates basketball coach
LSU has decided to reinstate recently suspended basketball coach Will Wade, athletic director Joe Alleva announced Sunday night.
The move came two days after a Wade met with LSU and NCAA officials, during which Alleva said the second-year Tigers coach “answered all questions and denied any wrongdoing in connection with recently reported allegations of irregularities in college basketball recruiting.”
