High school baseball roundup: Jefferson-Morgan walks off West Greene
Cole Tretinik drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Jefferson-Morgan a 6-5 victory over West Greene in a Section 2-A baseball game on Tuesday.
The Rockets (3-3, 3-7) allowed two runs in the top of the inning to allow the game to be tied, 5-5.
Easton Hanko started the seventh inning for J-M by getting hit with a pitch, then moved to second on a passed ball. Devin Stoneking walked and Ayden Pratt laid down a bunt single to load the bases for Tretinik.
West Greene (4-3, 7-5) got its two runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Hunter Hamilton and Ben Jackson. Joey Reed had four singles and Jackson cracked a two-run home run in a three-run first inning.
Bryce Bedilion doubled for Jefferson-Morgan.
Peters Township 10, Baldwin 0:
Peters Township made quick work of Baldwin,, 10-0, in a five-inning, Section 3 game in Class 6A.
Joe Pisarcik hit a three-run home run and Mark Lehman homered and drove in two runs for the Indians (6-1, 9-4). Jackson McCloskey singled, doubled and scored twice.
Baldwin (2-5, 4-6) had one hit off Lehman, who struck out seven.
Ringgold 5, McKeesport 4:
Ringgold scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to down McKeesport, 5-4, in a Section 3 game in Class 4A.
Ringgold moved to 7-1 in the section and 8-3 overall. McKeesport is 2-6 in the section, 3-7 overall.
Josh Peters drove in two runs and Travis Drusbasky had three singles and scored two runs. Bobby Boyer had a single and double for the Rams.
Beth-Center 2, Southmoreland 1:
Cam Palmer struck out 11 and allowed one hit in 6 1/3 innings as Beth-Center edged Southmoreland, 2-1, in a Class 3A Section 3 game.
Palmer was forced off the mound because of the pitch count with one out in the seventh inning.
Beth-Center (5-2, 5-6) scored the game-winning run in the fifth inning when Chase Malanosky scored on a squeeze bunt from Andrew Bower to lead 2-1.
Palmer helped his own cause in the first inning with an RBI single to score Anthony Dellapenna for the Bulldogs’ first run.
The lone hit surrendered by Palmer was the first batter of the game. He then retired 18 of the next 19 batters for Southmoreland (0-6, 2-8).
Avella 16, Geibel 1:
Derek Tarolli didn’t allow a hit as Avella hammered Geibel Catholic in a three-inning Class A Section 2 game, 16-1.
Tarolli could settle in on the mound after Avella (3-4, 4-6) scored eight runs in the first inning. The Eagles then added on with four runs in both the second and third innings.
Owen English hit a home run and walked twice. Nick Pollock doubled and drove in three runs. Chase McAlpine and Ty Jaworowski each had two RBI.
Geibel is 0-4 in the section and 0-6 overall.
California 14, Monessen 4:
California took a big step toward the Section 2-A title by erasing an early four-run deficit and beating Monessen, 14-4.
Nate Zamaney had four singles and drove in two runs for California (6-0, 8-1) and Jacob Swartz added a double among his three hits and drove in two runs. Brodie Connor also doubled for the Trojans, who trailed 4-0 in the third inning.
Winning pitcher Payton Conte struck out nine over six innings.
Jack Sacco had a double and two RBI for Monessen (4-2, 5-6) and Vincenzo Rhome doubled.
Keystone Oaks 2, Waynesburg 1:
Sammy Totorelli pitched a one-hit shutout and drove in Keystone Oaks’ only runs as the Golden Eagles slipped past visiting Waynesburg 2-1 in Class 3A Section 3.
The win keeps Keystone Oaks (6-1, 8-2) in first place in the section. Waynesburg slipped to 4-3, 5-4.
Totorelli had a two-run single in the first inning and he made it stand as he struck out nine and walked only one batter. Waynesburg scored an unearned run in the fifth when Kyle Blasco drew a walk and eventually scored on a two-out error.
Losing pitcher Luke Robinson allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings. He struck out six. Tyler Switalski had a single for the Raiders’ lone hit.
Belle Vernon 14, Uniontown 3: Bele Vernon broke a scoreless tie through three innings by scoring 14 runs over the last four innings in a 14-3 victory against Uniontown in a Section 3 game in Class 4A.
Joshua Hoffman tripled, doubled and singled, scored three times and drove in two for the Leopards (5-3, 6-4). Cole Naylor had one of Belle Vernon’s five doubles and Logan Seliga, Ryan McGrew and Andrew Sokol each drove in two runs.
Alex Busby doubled for Uniontown (3-5, 3-6).
