High school basketball roundup: Marisa, Mills lead Peters Township over Seneca Valley

Makenna Marisa and Isabella Mills both set career-high point totals as Peters Township cruised to a 96-52 victory over Seneca Valley in the Joey Fabus Memorial Classic Saturday evening at Bethel Park High School.

Marisa made five three-pointers en route to 47 points, topping her previous best of 36 that she reached twice this season. Mills scored 29 points for the Indians.

That wasn’t the only offense for Peters Township (16-0). Journey Thompson scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Mackenzie Lehman added 10 points for the high-scoring Indians, who led 47-31 at halftime.

Maddie Karchot and McKenna Gross each scored 10 points for Seneca Valley (11-6).

Burgettstown 54, Cornell 14: Emily Prasko and Madison Kozares each scored 10 points as Burgettstown easily downed Cornell, 54-14, in a non-section game.

The Blue Devils, winners of three of their last four, started fast by outscoring Cornell 19-7 in the first quarter. Burgettstown (8-9) led 36-9 at halftime.

Cornell (1-16) was led by Diara Jackson’s five points.

Boys results

Waynesburg 57, Fort Cherry 44: Lucas Garber scored a game-high 19 points as Waynesburg defeated Fort Cherry, 57-44, in a non-section game.

Winners of back-to-back games, Waynesburg (9-9) started fast with 20 points in the first quarter and took a 36-23 lead into halftime.

Chris King had a double-double for the Raiders with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Fort Cherry (4-13) was paced by Maddox Truschel and Zach Vincenti, each with 10 points.

Moon 67, Trinity 47: Donovan Johnson and Connor Ryan were too much for Trinity as Moon pulled away in the second and third quarters to down the Hillers, 67-47, in a Class 5A Section 2 game.

Johnson scored a game-high 26 points and Ryan finished with 21 as Moon (10-0, 17-0) expanded a three-point lead it had after the first quarter to a 21-point advantage after the third.

The loss drops Trinity (4-6, 7-10) into a tie for fourth place in the section with Thomas Jefferson. Each team has four section games remaining, including when they play one another Friday at Hiller Hall.

Michael Koroly led Trinity with 12 points.
